Basilica of Santa Maria Novella in Florence

Thursday, May 31st, 2018, starting at 20:00 pm

For his next Florentine appointment in the fascinating Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, at the end of the Marian month of May the female voices of the SolEnsemble propose a concert dedicated to the different apsects of woman, represented by Mary, woman and mother, symbol of awaiting, of fidelity and grace.

The program covers the medieval sounds of Llibre Vermell, de Las Huelgas, of the Cividale Code. Temporal and stylistic parallels arise between the compositions of Hildegard von Bingen and those of the young composers Carlotta Ferrari and Irene Calamosca; the juxtaposition of two different contemporary readings of the Magnificat, including the splendid poetic transposition in Sardinian ("in limba") music by Angelina Figus; the echo of the Song of the Songs in the text I lie by David Lang.

SolEnsemble, a female vocal ensemble that dedicates particular attention to the music of composers of all ages, presents itself here in the formation of six "a cappella" voices.

Come along and enjoy the concert!
