Paolo Uccello and Bill Viola. Renaissance and video art compared

On the occasion of the exhibition by Bill Viola Electronic Renaissance, Palazzo Strozzi has established a special partnership with Santa Maria Novella (the City of Florence, Opera for Santa Maria Novella)

From March 10th until July 23rd, 2017 the famous Great Flood of Paul Uccello from the Green Cloister will be on display at Palazzo Strozzi in the great exhibition of Bill Viola Electronic Renaissance, to establish a close dialogue with the work The Deluge (2002) by the american artist.

A projection replacement will be installed in the Refectory of Santa Maria Novella, where the fresco had been placed after the restoration. In the same room it will be exhibited a work by Bill Viola, powerful burst of contemporary art in the ancient complex of Santa Maria Novella: the video installation Tempest (2005), involving representation of aching humanity hit by the raging waters, which unites the poetic of the masterpiece made by Paolo Uccello.

Santa Maria Novella thus becomes part of the path "Outside exhibition": for all the duration of the event all Santa Maria Novella's ticket holders will be entitled to a reduction on the entrance fee to the exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi.

Thanks to this agreement it will be possible to visit the exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi at a discounted price (€ 9.50 instead of 12) presenting the special coupon that comes along with the Santa Maria Novella ticket (on-line tickets are not valid for this time).
