Schedule for the Holy Week at Santa Maria Novella in Florence

During Holy Week the Church celebrates the Passion, death and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. During this week (11-17 April) significant changes are therefore expected in the visiting hours of the basilica (see below). Here are the times of the celebrations to be held in the basilica (entrance from Piazza S. Maria Novella).

April 11: Holy Monday

Holy Masses: 7.30 am and 6.15 pm

April 12: Holy Tuesday

Holy Masses: 7.30 am and 6.15 pm

April 13: Holy Wednesday

Holy Masses: 7.30 am and 6.15 pm

April 14: Holy Thursday

6 pm: Holy Mass "in Coena Domini"

April 15: Good Friday

3 pm: via Crucis
6 pm: Adoration of the Cross, Reading of the Passion, Eucharistic Communion

April 16: Holy Saturday

10.00 pm: Solemn Easter Vigil

April 17: Resurrection Sunday

Holy Masses: 10.30, 12, 18

Information

Changes in visiting hours:

April 14, Holy Thursday: early closing at 4.30 pm (last admission at 3.30 pm)

April 15, Good Friday: closed to visitors for the whole day. The entrance to the basilica is allowed only for personal prayer and celebrations

April 16, Holy Saturday: closed to visitors for the whole day. The entrance to the basilica is allowed only during the morning. In the afternoon the basilica is closed for preparatory work in view of the solemn Easter vigil.

April 17, Easter Sunday: on this day when the Resurrection of the Lord is celebrated, the Opera for Santa Maria Novella has arranged for free admission to visitors and tourists who intend to visit the basilica. On the other hand, those wishing to visit the adjacent Civic Museum can do so only by purchasing the ticket at the municipal ticket office (entrance in Piazza Stazione).
